The Federal Government has announced plans to strengthen Nigeria’s creative economy by addressing some of the challenges affecting practitioners in the country’s growing creative sector.

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, disclosed this during Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 in Abuja.

Musawa said the government was developing a framework to address challenges including inadequate funding, infrastructure, data and access to markets. She noted that Nigeria’s creative industry has the potential to generate employment, attract investment and contribute significantly to the country’s economic development.

According to her, the government is working towards creating an environment where young Nigerians can transform their creative talents into sustainable businesses.

Stakeholders in the fashion industry also called for increased investment in the sector, noting that fashion supports several areas of the economy, including manufacturing, photography, modelling, transportation, retail and media.

The renewed attention on the creative economy comes as Nigerian fashion, music, film and other creative products continue to attract audiences both within and outside the country.

Stakeholders believe that with improved funding, infrastructure and government support, Nigeria’s creative industry can become an even stronger contributor to economic growth and youth employment.
