The fifth edition of the Artmiabo International Art Festival (AMIAF) has opened in Abuja, bringing together artists and art enthusiasts from across Africa to celebrate the continent’s artistic heritage.

The four-day festival, which begins today, September 28, and ends October 1, is being held at the FCT Exhibition Pavilion along Herbert Macaulay Way, Central Area, Abuja.

The festival is themed “African Art, Heritage & Legacy” and features works from painters, sculptors, metalworkers, wood carvers and mixed-media artists. The programme also includes exhibitions, artist talks and opportunities for visitors to purchase artworks directly from the artists.

The event places particular attention on African heritage and the role of young artists in preserving and developing the continent’s creative identity.

The organisers have continued to position AMIAF as a platform for connecting African artists with wider audiences and markets. Earlier reports on the festival noted its focus on creating opportunities for young African artists and strengthening their participation in the contemporary art space.

The festival is expected to attract art lovers, collectors, cultural enthusiasts and members of the public throughout its four-day programme.

With exhibitions and discussions centred on African creativity, the festival provides an avenue for artists to showcase their work while encouraging conversations about the preservation of African culture and heritage.

The Artmiabo International Art Festival is expected to further spotlight Nigeria and Africa’s growing creative sector while providing artists with opportunities to connect with new audiences and promote the continent’s artistic heritage.
