Afro beat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced a three-night concert residency at the National Theatre in Lagos in December.
Tagged “ORIADÉ: The Residency,” the concert series is scheduled for December 17 to 19, according to report.
The residency will mark a major live performance by the singer in Nigeria and will also coincide with a milestone in his career as he celebrates 15 years in music, according to the report.
Davido announced the project on social media alongside a video trailer, describing the Lagos concerts as a homecoming.
The residency is also expected to feature music from his sixth studio album, Oriadé, alongside older songs from his catalogue and appearances by collaborators.
The National Theatre, located in Iganmu, Lagos, is a major Nigerian cultural institution, making it a significant venue for a multi-night concert by one of the country’s internationally recognised music stars.
The choice of venue also places the concert within the wider intersection of Nigeria’s music industry and its cultural infrastructure.
According to report, the project has been in planning for almost a year. The publication quoted Davido as saying the residency is intended to create a world-class live experience in Nigeria rather than relying entirely on international venues for major productions.
The December dates also place the concert within Lagos’ traditionally busy end-of-year entertainment period, when the city hosts numerous concerts and cultural events.
The announcement has therefore added another major event to the city’s December entertainment calendar.
Details of ticket prices and the full guest line-up were not included in the report reviewed for this story and should not be added until officially confirmed.
