The Lagos State Government has dismissed as false a report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was ordered to resign on health grounds, insisting that the claim is entirely fabricated and should be disregarded.
In a statement issued on behalf of the governor, the government described the report—circulated by Sahara Reporters—as misleading and without basis, stating that there is no directive or discussion regarding the governor’s resignation.
It reaffirmed that Sanwo-Olu is in good health, mentally alert, and actively performing his duties as governor of Lagos State.
The statement also clarified that earlier in the day, the governor received the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally inform him of his intention to contest for the governorship in the future. According to the government, the meeting was cordial and in line with normal political engagements.
The government accused Sahara Reporters of spreading disinformation, but said the clarification became necessary to prevent the public from being misled.
It urged residents to disregard the report entirely, describing it as fake news and reaffirming that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains fully in office.
The statement was signed by Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Lagos State, on April 27, 2026.
