I had money before I met him. I started business in 2001 and was already in the oil and gas sector before I met my late husband,” she said, adding that she comes from a stable background.

On reports surrounding seized cash, Achimugu clarified that the figures circulating publicly were inaccurate.

“Contrary to insinuations that $13 million was confiscated in my home, what was actually found was $50,000 and N13 million. The $50,000 belongs to my mother and was meant for my children’s schooling,” she explained.

She also denied claims of funding opposition candidates during the 2023 elections or being targeted by the presidency.

“The president is not my problem. I don’t believe anybody is behind my ordeal. God is the one promoting me,” she said.

Addressing public reaction to her lavish 50th birthday celebration in the Caribbean in 2024, Achimugu stated that the event had been planned over a decade and was not intended as a display of excess.

“I planned my fiftieth birthday for ten years. I wasn’t trying to show off. I simply enjoy celebrating milestones,” she noted.

Highlighting her business portfolio, she said she owns 11 companies across oil and gas, consulting, maritime, and other sectors, describing herself as a self-made entrepreneur focused on long-term impact and sustainability.

“I am not here to prove myself. My character speaks for itself. I stay within my boundaries, and the only offence I can point to is being deliberate,” she added.

Achimugu’s remarks come amid ongoing legal proceedings and heightened public scrutiny following reports of forfeited funds linked to her. While opinions remain divided, she maintains that her wealth is legitimate and built over decades of enterprise.

The case remains before the courts.

Billionaire businesswoman Mrs. Aisha Achimugu, currently facing prosecution over alleged money laundering and forfeited funds, has rejected claims linking her wealth to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu or suggesting her legal challenges are politically driven by President Bola Tinubu.
